About JointFire
JointFire is the multi-agency, multi-discipline fire and rescue training program coordinated by the Boulder Emergency Squad (BES).
The JointFire program began in 2006 as a structural firefighting training cooperative between Four Mile Fire Department, Gold Hill Fire Department, and Sunshine Fire Department, with all centralized administrative and coordinating services provided by the Boulder Emergency Squad. The participating departments recognized the massive duplication of effort that was occurring with the previous system of each department running their own in-house training program. Furthermore, most non-EMS incidents in any of the participating districts required the cooperation of the surrounding agencies. By consolidating and outsourcing their training programs, the participating departments were able to improve efficiency, increase the quality and quantity of trainings, and capitalize on an economy of scale.
Since that time, the Boulder Emergency Squad has expanded its training offerings to include wildland firefighting training, funded in part by a grant from the Boulder County Commissioners. JointFire offers annual refreshers, physical testing ("the pack test"), and local-level NWCG courses. Starting in 2009, JointFire started a pilot program called JointEMS, funded in part by FEMA/USFA. JointEMS is providing EMS continuing education and community outreach programs on a trial scale for the current time.
