Be a JointFire instructor!

JointFire is looking for qualified structural firefighters interested in instructing JointFire classes for the Four Mile, Gold Hill, and Sunshine Fire Departments.

Expectations

  • Given appropriate presentation materials, handouts, quizzes, and similar classroom materials, the instructor will competently lead and deliver classroom and/or skills training sessions so that learning objectives are achieved, students are actively and positively engaged in the learning process, and instructional/audiovisual equipment is used appropriately.
  • The instructor will conduct a safety survey of equipment, training areas, and classrooms prior to commencing operations so that all hazards to students, instructors, and others are identified and mitigated.
  • The instructor will arrive at the training site with adequate time to setup any instruction aids, prepare to lead the class, and have all classroom support materials ready at the scheduled beginning of class.
  • The instructor will answer questions as best he or she can and will be prepared to help students find the answers to questions that he or she can not answer.
  • The instructor will complete forms applicable to the training session, including attendance records and skills checklists, and submit those forms to the Program Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • The instructor will provide honest, constructive feedback to all students in an appropriate manner.
  • Instructors are expected to act professionally and courteously at all times, while enforcing a physically and emotionally safe learning atmosphere.

Required qualifications:  At a minimum, instructors must be certified by the Colorado Division of Fire Safety as a Firefighter 1 or above.

Compensation

  • Except when prohibited by law, instructors will receive a $90 stipend for each evening classroom session they teach in order to compensate them for expenses incurred while teaching.
  • Except when prohibited by law, instructors will receive a $150 stipend for each all-day, weekend practical session they teach in order to compensate them for expenses incurred while teaching.
  • Instructors will be required to sign an instructor agreement prior to receiving payment.
