2010 Boulder County Basic Wildland Fire Academy (S130/190)

The dates have been set for the 2010 Boulder County Basic Wildland Fire Academy, formerly known as Cal-Wood. The Academy will be offered as a one week daytime class OR a two week evening class. The class will conclude with a mandatory full day Saturday and Sunday practical field days. Please see the dates below and plan your upcoming schedules accordingly.

Classes Included in the Academy

The following classes will be included as part of the academy:

  • S-130: Firefighter Training
  • S-190: Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
  • L-180: Human Factors on the Fireline

Online Pre-Course

Students must have completed I-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System by the first class.

Academy Schedule

The classroom portion of the academy will be held at Boulder Emergency Squad, 3532 Diagonal Highway, Boulder, CO 80301.

Evening Class (M-Th)

  • Mon., May 10: 1800-2200
  • Tues., May 11: 1800-2200
  • Wed., May 12: 1800-2200
  • Thurs., May 13: 1800-2200
  • Mon., May 17: 1800-2200
  • Tues., May 18: 1800-2200
  • Wed., May 19: 1800-2200
  • Thurs., May 20: 1800-2200

Field Days

The field days are for both the day & evening classes. Location TBA.

  • Sat., May 22: 0800-1700
  • Sun., May 23: 0800-1700

Tuition & Registration

Students must be affiliated with a wildland firefighting or other public safety agency. Course fees are $75. The fee includes all course materials.

Students are responsible for snacks, lunch, and water for the field days. Each student must also provide their own full set of PPE (pants, shirt, boots, pack, helmet w/ shroud, eye protection, gloves, and wildland tool).

This course is sponsored by the Boulder County Wildland Fire Cooperators (BCWFC), a subcommittee of the Boulder County Firefighters Association (BCFFA) with administrative support from JointFire.
